Suffolk Executive Bellone, SCPD Commissioner Harrison Announce $250,000 State Grant Funding for Mobile License Plate Readers

Share

Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone joined with Assemblyman Steve Stern and Police Commissioner Rodney K. Harrison to announce that the Suffolk County Police Department (SCPD) will receive a $250,000 grant for additional mobile license plate readers in the SCPD’s Second Precinct, which patrols the Town of Huntington.

The license plate readers are an important part of the over $1 million public safety package Assemblyman Stern has secured to enhance law enforcement efforts and keep Suffolk communities safe.

Mobile license plate readers are high-speed, computer-controlled camera systems that are typically mounted on police squad cars. The readers use specialized digital cameras and computers to photograph and scan the license plate numbers of passing vehicles, helping police investigate, prevent and respond to criminal incidents.
