Recently, Suffolk County Legislator Anker attended a Middle Island Civic Association meeting to present a proclamation to recent Longwood High School graduate Tyler Massian in recognition of his exemplary service to the community. Most recently, Tyler Massian directed and edited a video featuring the Middle Island Civic Association, in which he encourages community residents to get actively involved in their local Civic Association.
“It is my honor to recognize Tyler and thank him for the positive impact that he has had on the Longwood School District, the Middle Island Civic Association and his community as a whole,” said Legislator Anker. “Tyler’s passion for his community is inspiring.”
“Tyler Massian went above and beyond our expectations with this civic awareness video,” said Middle Island Civic Association President Gail Bailey. “We civic officers thought he was just filming us, but he added so many extra touches with local photos, funny graphics and great narration. Tyler really captured the essence of Longwood’s communities and we’re very grateful.”
During his time as a Longwood student, Tyler represented his peers and community as a member of the Longwood Technology, Safety, and Legislative Committees, the High School Shared Decision Making Committee, and as a member of the Student Government and Student Council. In addition, he was instrumental in planning and facilitating community engagement events including, the Character Breakfast, Safe Halloween, Olympic Night, blood drives, the Challenge, the annual Academic Bowl, Junior High School Socials, the Spring Fling, and the Victory Games. Tyler, a member of the National Honor Society and the National Foreign Language Honor Society, has also volunteered his time to the Longwood Youth Sports Association as a soccer coach. Continuing with his academic pursuits, Tyler will be attending SUNY Binghamton in the Fall of 2022.
