Joseph A. Maiorana, President of the Mastics-Moriches-Shirley Community Library Board of Trustees, has been appointed to the Suffolk County Downtown Revitalization Panel.

The appointment was made by Suffolk County Third District Legislator James F. Mazzarella.

The Downtown Revitalization Panel evaluates applications for the county’s Downtown Revitalization grant program. Its members help ensure the funding of projects that will make the greatest contribution to the long-term improvement of local downtowns and have a positive economic impact on the county as a whole.

Mr. Maiorana is the long-time Assistant Community Development Director for the Town of Riverhead Community Development Department. In this capacity, he writes and administers millions of dollars in grant funding and oversees a home improvement program that provides assistance to low-income residents.

“These downtown grants provide a valuable way to infuse communities with necessary funding to jump-start their projects,” said Mr. Maiorana. “I’m grateful that Legislator Mazzarella has confidence in me to effectively advocate for projects throughout the Third Legislative District.”

“Downtown revitalization is an important part of sustainable growth in Suffolk County and helps define our communities and quality of life,” said Legislator Mazzarella. “The Panel recommends the creation of downtown revitalization grant programs aimed at helping towns, villages and community organizations enhance their downtowns and attract visitors and shoppers into the area.”

“The Suffolk County Downtown Revitalization Grant Program allows us to invest in our robust, vibrant downtowns that are needed to keep our region stay competitive and grow our local economy,” said Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone. “We will continue to make the quality investments needed to ensure a prosperous future for all those who call Suffolk home.”

“For everyone associated with the library, it’s clear why Joe Maiorana is highly qualified to serve on the Downtown Revitalization Panel,” said Kerri Rosalia, Director of the Mastics-Moriches-Shirley Community Library. “In addition to his on-point community development experience with the Town of Riverhead, he has also helped champion our soon-to-open Mastic Beach satellite branch on Neighborhood Road, a facility that is a key component to the rejuvenation of downtown Mastic Beach.”
