Nassau County Executive Bruce A. Blakeman joined Islander Co-Owner Jon Ledecky, and Islanders Legends Butch Goring and Bobby Nystrom to honor and celebrate the life of Clark Gillies, Hall of Fame Islanders Legend and Long Island philanthropist.

Clark Gillies played a key role for the New York Islanders when they won 4 straight Stanley Cups in the 1980s. Gillies also played a key role as a resident of Nassau County who truly took community service to heart.

County Executive Blakeman announced the dome of the Executive and Legislative Building in Mineola will be illuminated Blue and Orange this weekend in honor of Clark Gillies dedication to our community.

County Executive Blakeman said “ When residents drive past the Executive and Legislative Building tonight, I ask you to think of Clark GIllie’s hard work, big heart, and the great times he gave to us here in Nassau County.” Blakeman continued. “He was a leader who really took community service to heart, always looking for ways to help others and give back to his community.”

Islanders Co-Owner Jon Ledecky said “We’re wearing No. 9 for the rest of the season on our uniform, but the No. 9 of Clark Gillies will always be in our hearts” Ledecky continued “He was a philanthropist, a true humanitarian and he really exposed the new ownership group of Scott Malkin , Dewey Shea and myself, to the history of Long Island, the history of the Islanders and the great tradition that stands on the uniform that we wear today with his number on it.”

The Clark Gillies Foundation is a non-profit corporation developed to help children who are physically, mentally, or financially challenged. With their main focus on helping children improve their quality of life and be of assistance in a time of crisis.

Islanders Legend Bill Nystrom said “Yes, he was one hell of a hockey player, but that was only a short time in his life, what he did after hockey will be his legacy – dedicating his life to the people of Long Island.”
