Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman recently signed three Executive Orders with the support of elected officials and members of various school boards, and parents beside him.

The first Executive Order signed by County Executive Blakeman will give local school boards the power to decide whether to require mask mandates in schools

“School boards are composed of elected officials who make decisions based upon the unique circumstances of each District. They are in the best position to make these decisions, not an autocracy in Albany,” Blakeman said.

The second Executive order allows Nassau County workers the option as to whether to wear a mask. Workers will not be required to wear a mask indoors or outdoors.

“Let no one be fooled that we in Nassau County are not taking the challenges and risks of Covid-19 lightly. We are taking a very aggressive approach in fighting Covid-19.” County Executive Blakeman said. “But this aggressive approach must be balanced by keeping in mind the psychological and economic risks of every decision we make as well as individuals’ constitutional rights.” Blakeman continued.

As part of his aggressive approach to fighting COVID-19, Blakeman also announced that Nassau County will double the distribution of free test kits this weekend. Stating that over 160,000 test kits will be distributed this Saturday from 8:30 am to 1:00 pm at two locations; Tobay Beach and Eisenhower Park. Asking residents that live south of Hempstead Turnpike to go to Tobay Beach and residents that live north of Hempstead Turnpike to visit the Eisenhower Park distribution site.

Lastly, the County Executive stated all public and private schools in Nassau County will supply KN95 masks to teachers, janitors, administrators, and all other staff. In effort to eliminate any excuse to close Nassau County schools.

He also thanked Senator Schumer and Congressmen Garbarino and Suozzi for their efforts to secure federal funds for local governments to fight this pandemic.
