Suffolk County Coordinates On-Site Vaccination Effort at Senior Community

Share

Suffolk County Legislator Sarah Anker worked in collaboration with the Suffolk County Executive’s office, Suffolk County Police Department, and the administrative staff and the Board of Directors at Leisure Village to organize an on-site vaccination effort at the senior community in Ridge this past Sunday. Leisure Village was chosen as a pilot on-site vaccination location because it is one of the largest senior communities in Suffolk County with approximately 2,400 residents. Through this effort, pharmacists provided 500 doses of the one-shot Johnson and Johnson vaccine to the residents of Leisure Village.

“With many residents having limited access to technology for online registration, the process of securing a vaccine appointment has been frustrating for many seniors,” said Legislator Anker. “As the chair of both the Senior and Health Committees in the county, I have been advocating for the increased accessibility of vaccines to our seniors, who are one of the most vulnerable populations to Covid-19. I want to thank the County Executive’s office, the Suffolk County Police Department and all the wonderful administrative staff and the Board of Directors at Leisure Village for working with me to not only make this effort possible, but for operating it so safely and efficiently.”

“We were able to vaccinate 500 of our residents on Sunday,” said Leisure Village Board of Directors President Carole Leonard. “I am very pleased with what Legislator Sarah Anker was able to do to get our residents vaccinated. I want to thank her for her continued advocacy for our community.”

“This on-site effort was an important step in increasing accessibility of the Covid-19 vaccine. I will continue to advocate for the seniors in our community to help bring more Covid-19 vaccines to the local communities that are the most in need,” said Legislator Anker.
