Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office to Conduct Public Comment Sessions

Share

In accordance with NYS Executive Order 203, the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office will hold public comment sessions to gather input and hear concerns related to Police Reform and Reinvention.

On June 12, 2020, NYS Governor Andrew M. Cuomo signed Executive Order 203 entitled the “New York State Police Reform and Reinvention Collaborative.” This order directs all local government entities with a police agency to evaluate the agency’s current policies and practices to address any racial bias and disproportionate policing of communities of color and to promote trust, fairness, and legitimacy. The agency is then directed to adopt a policing reform plan after performing a collaborative review of the needs of the community served by its police agency.

The Sheriff and members of his staff will be hosting numerous forums on Zoom to hear community concerns. Information to help guide discussion is posted on the Sheriff’s Office website at https://www.suffolkcountysheriffsoffice.com/police-reform.

The public is urged to send an email to Suffolk_Sheriff@suffolkcountyny.gov to register for a public session.
