Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone: “COVID-19 Cases Reach Troubling Levels”

Share

Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone has released the following statement on the County’s ongoing response to COVID-19. Today, New York State reported 1,239 new COVID-19 cases in Suffolk County out of 17,085 tests, for a positivity rate of 7.3 percent.

“Once again, today’s number of new COVID-19 cases has reached troubling levels. Over the course of the last week, a positivity rate above 7 percent has become common, rather than just a one day spike.

“Christmas in now only two days away, and if we do not take the proper precautions, it is safe to say that the worst of this virus may still be ahead of us. We are all tired, but this virus is here and it is spreading across our communities. While our celebrations may be a little smaller this year, we will all be safer for it.

“The arrival of the vaccine signals the beginning of the end, but we can’t let up now. Our actions this week and next week will have major implications on case levels and hospitalizations as we head into the New Year. Something as simple as practicing social distancing and wearing a mask can literally save lives. Together, we will once again crush the curve – so, mask up, Long Island.”
