Study: 2020’s Safest Cities in America – Where Does New York Rank?

With around half of Americans worried about getting COVID-19, the personal-finance website WalletHub today released its report on 2020’s Safest Cities in America.

To determine where Americans can feel most protected against life’s hazards, including nonphysical forms of danger, WalletHub compared more than 180 U.S. cities across 42 key metrics. The data set ranges from COVID-19 cases in the past seven days per 100,000 residents and assaults per capita to the unemployment rate and road quality.

Safety in New York (1=Safest, 91=Avg.):

  • 2nd – Traffic Fatalities per Capita
  • 1st – Law-Enforcement Employees per Capita
  • 91st – Assaults per Capita
  • 133rd – Hate Crimes per Capita
  • 148th – Unemployment Rate
  • 106th – % of Households with Emergency Savings
  • 63rd – % of Uninsured Population
  • 34th – Natural-Disaster Risk Level
  • 74th – Avg. COVID-19 Cases in the Last Seven Days per 100,000 Residents
