The director of a Post COVID-19 Support Group coordinated by Emerge Rehabilitation and Nursing in Glen Cove will be bringing her expertise and experience to a panel discussion hosted by the American Lung Association (ALA) on Wednesday, November 4 from 4 to 5 p.m. Lisa Penziner, RN and Director of Special Projects for Emerge and Paragon Management will be part of a virtual Town Hall webcast will also include several physicians.

The ALA hosts a nationwide series of virtual Town Hall meetings on various COVID-19 topics. The Nov. 4 webcast will focus on COVID-19 recovery and will be hosted by Dr. Albert Rizzo.

Emerge saw the need back in June to address the lingering emotional and psychological health issues experienced by people who survived the coronavirus. They started bi-monthly, free virtual supports groups, available to anyone, regardless of where they lived. The support group sessions take place as Zoom meetings and are led by professionals on staff at the Sub-Acute Rehabilitation Centers, including a psychologist, and Penziner.

The topic of discussion is described by the ALA: “Recovery from Covid-19 can be a lonely, long process affecting all aspects of daily life, and it highlights the importance of having quality and affordable healthcare. Health challenges, financial hardship, social strain and access to treatments for aftercare should be considered during this journey. Please join as we discuss recent updates on symptom-based strategies, aftercare resources, and the importance of access to quality and affordable healthcare to help those recovering from Covid-19.”

According to the ALA, webcasts usually have up to 2,500 individuals register, including healthcare professionals, people living with lung disease and the general public.
