NuHealth Board Member and Village of Hempstead Trustee for Emergency Services Waylyn Hobbs recently joined with local officials, medical professionals, and community members at Union Senior Citizens Plaza for a free flu shot giveaway for vulnerable local senior citizens.
Many medical experts this year fear a “twin pandemic” of seasonal flu, while our region and nation still grapples the coronavirus.
Officials offered the free immunization to help stop the spread of the seasonal flu and ultimately preserve valuable resources for a second COVID-19 spike. The seasonal flu and coronavirus have very similar symptoms and fewer flu cases could prevent misdiagnoses.
Flu season runs from November through February. Over 200,000 people have died as a result of the coronavirus, in addition to the near 62,000 who have died as a result of the flu.
