Curran, Clavin Statements on Future of Nassau Coliseum, Nassau HUB Site Development, Return of NY Islanders for 2020-21 Season

Nassau County Executive Laura Curran released the following statements on the future of Nassau Coliseum, the Nassau HUB Site Development, and the potential return of the New York Islanders for the 2020-21 NHL hockey season:

“I am pleased to announce progress on a plan for the future of the Coliseum and the development of the Nassau Hub site. Discussions are progressing between the County, the Coliseum tenant, NEC (controlled by Onexim), the leasehold lender, USIF, and the development partner, RXR Realty. USIF and Onexim are in active discussions for USIF to step into the shoes of NEC, allowing NEC to exit from Coliseum operations and the Nassau Hub redevelopment. As a result of these discussions, the parties are on a path to bring the New York Islanders back to the Coliseum for the 2020-21 season. Recently, I met with Town of Hempstead Supervisor Donald X. Clavin and RXR Realty Chairman and CEO, Scott Rechler, to discuss the shared goal of advancing the Nassau Hub redevelopment.”

Hempstead Town Supervisor Don Clavin also released a statement:

“The Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum housed so many of Long Island’s important moments, including the New York Islanders and their historic Stanley Cup run, the excitement of ‘Dr. J’ Julius Erving and the New York Nets and decades of memorable concerts, shows and professional sporting events. Situated in the heart of Nassau’s Hub, the Coliseum plays a pivotal role in the development of the property, and I am thrilled about the positive news related to the arena’s future. I’m delighted to work with County Executive Laura Curran and all stakeholders for meaningful development at the Hub that could be a gem for the Town of Hempstead for generations to come.”

And finally, a statement from RXR Realty Chairman and CEO Scott Rechler:

“We’ve had constructive dialog with Onexim and USIF regarding the future of the Coliseum and the redevelopment of the Nassau Hub. Onexim is in active discussions with USIF to allow USIF to step into Onexim’s role as a partner with RXR in the site’s redevelopment. We’re also in discussions with the County and Town of Hempstead about progressing our plans for the Nassau Hub redevelopment, as well as potential operators for the Coliseum and we’re confident that the Coliseum will be ready for the return of the New York Islanders for the 2020-2021 season.”
