Hempstead Police and Officials to Announce New Distancing Enforcement Ahead of Busy Holiday Weekend

Village of Hempstead Trustee for Emergency Services Waylyn Hobbs and Village of Hempstead Police Officials will announce new social distancing and gathering restrictions as well as aggressive enforcement measures ahead of Memorial Day Weekend, the first major outdoor holiday during the coronavirus pandemic.

This announcement will take place Friday, May 22 at 10:30 a.m. at the Incorporated Village of Hempstead Hall located at 99 James A. Garner Way in Hempstead, NY.

Coronavirus case numbers continue to climb in Hempstead, which has become Nassau County’s epicenter; according to Hempstead officials, this is due to visitors and residents ignoring advice of officials and social distancing requirements. Officials will announce new park and pool closures and strict enforcement against large gatherings in the Village and downtown to prevent a post-holiday spike in cases.

The Village of Hempstead is the state’s largest and densest Village and is Nassau County’s largest transit hub, with the region’s largest bus station and the Long Island Rail Road servicing tens-of-thousands daily.
