Legislator John Ferretti joined with Nassau County Clerk Maureen O’Connell, Police Benevolent Association President James McDermott and Helen Meittinas, President of the Community association of Stewart Avenue, to announce “Letters to Our Heroes”.
As COVID-19 sweeps across our county, state, and nation, our healthcare workers and first responders are, now more than ever, on the front lines keeping us safe. Legislator Ferretti announced “Letters to Our Heroes”; a way for children and members of the community to write thank you letters and emails to those working around the clock serving our community.
Legislator Ferretti said “I am proud to announce “Letters to Our Heroes” to show our appreciation for our first responders, doctors, nurses, and other healthcare workers who are on the front lines of the COVID-19 outbreak. Our community has time and time again shown our ability to come together in times of crisis; this outbreak is no exception. I urge everyone to take just a few minutes to email or send a letter to be delivered to our community’s heroes in the coming weeks.”
Helen Meittinas, President of the Community association of Stewart Avenue said “With children and parents home from school, this is a great time to show our law enforcement and healthcare workers that we appreciate all they are doing to keep us safe. I encourage moms and families in our community to come together and take advantage of Legislator Ferretti’s “Letters To Our Heroes” drive and show our appreciation for those on the front lines of the COVID-19 outbreak.”
From today through next Tuesday April 7th, residents are encouraged to write a note to our first responders and healthcare workers thanking them for helping to keep our community safe and healthy. They can send these notes electronically via email to jferretti@nassaucountyny.gov, or send them to the legislative building, Attention: Legislator Ferretti, 1550 Franklin Avenue, Mineola, NY.
Residents can type a letter and email it, or for children, they can scan any pictures or drawings and email them or simply drop them in the mail to the Legislative Building.
Nassau County Clerk Maureen O’Connell Said “As a registered nurse, I know exactly what it’s like to be on the front lines working with doctors, families, and patients in moments of crisis. I am proud to stand with Legislator Ferretti to thank our doctors, nurses, pharmacists, and first responders working around the clock to keep our community safe and healthy. These letters will go a long way towards sending our appreciation for all they do.”
Nassau County PBA President James McDermott said “Our officers are oftentimes the tip of the spear when it comes to working with residents who have contracted COVID-19. I want to thank Legislator Ferretti for putting together “Letters to Our Heroes” to boost officer morale and allow the community to show their appreciation for all that our officers do to keep residents safe and healthy.”
Letters will be collected, printed, sorted, and delivered to police precincts, hospitals and healthcare centers throughout the county, and the 15th Legislative District.
