The Huntington Town Board recently held its November meeting remotely and broadcast meeting audio and video live, extending on-premises outdoor dining permits and waiving metered parking fees in Huntington Village, where the Town is co-hosting the Huntington Holiday Spectacular, a season-long Huntington Village holiday event, and more.
Supervisor Chad A. Lupinacci stated, “Waiving metered parking fees in Huntington Village is a holiday tradition we wouldn’t let COVID force us to break this year. It helps level the playing field for mom and pop shops competing with malls and big box stores for holiday shopping, plus this year we get an additional boost from the Huntington Holiday Spectacular, which is happening on Wall Street in place of our usual holiday parade and festivities, will help bring more people into the entire village across the whole season, and not all at once like our parade traditionally does.”
In the pro-business holiday spirit, the Town Board:
- Waived metered parking fees in the Huntington Village shopping area beginning November 26 and ending January 1 and authorized the installation of holiday lights and decorations in various business areas by the Huntington Township Chamber of Commerce and Huntington Village Business Improvement District; the Huntington Station Business Improvement District; and the East Northport Chamber of Commerce, including a Menorah and Nativity Scene on Town property at the Northport LIRR Station.
- Authorized the Town of Huntington to co-sponsor the Huntington Village Business Improvement District’s Huntington Holiday Spectacular season-long holiday event in downtown Huntington Village, in place of the cancelled Huntington Holiday Parade.
- Approved the use of the municipal parking lot adjacent to 24 W. Carver Street, Huntington for The Rust & Gold’s Rolling Gold Holiday Village Event for the weekend of December 4-6.
- Accepted a donation of one-year subscriptions from The Long Islander News to the Town of Huntington for winners of the Town’s 2020-Syle Outdoor Holiday Decorating Contest categories: Residential, Commercial, Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa and Kid-Decorated. Entries must be submitted online by December 6.
The Town Board also extended temporary special use permits issued by the Zoning Board of Appeals for outdoor dining on-premises at commercial establishments to expire on March 31, 2021, three months later than the original expiration date.
