Congressman Lee Zeldin (R, NY-1), co-chair of the National Labs Caucus, announced Brookhaven National Lab will receive $115 million in federal funding from the National Science Foundation (NSF) and U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) for the establishment of a new quantum information science (QIS) research institute, which will focus on a range of key QIS research topics, including quantum networking, sensing, computing, and materials manufacturing.
Congressman Zeldin has worked closely with Secretary of Energy Dan Brouillette, Undersecretary of Energy for Science Paul Dabbar, and Brookhaven National Lab to help Long Island lead the way in this emerging field.
“The emergence of quantum computing will greatly improve our lives and nation with everything from healthcare to national security and the financial sector,” said Congressman Lee Zeldin. “Thanks to investments in our nation’s best and brightest scientists, especially those at the world-renowned Brookhaven National Lab, we’re now closer than ever to a large scale implementation of this technology. This new research center at Brookhaven National Lab will spur profound discoveries and advancements for decades to come.”
