On Wednesday, May 13, 2020, Sheriff Errol D. Toulon Jr. will greet and convey his gratitude to the hardworking doctors, nurses, and medical professionals who have worked tirelessly throughout this pandemic to prevent the spread of coronavirus in the Suffolk County Jails. While other county and state correctional facilities have had outbreaks of the virus, Suffolk County has managed to keep the virus in check.

Sheriff Toulon believes this success story has to do with the precautions taken by the corrections and medical staff in the county facilities. He will appear at the Yaphank Correctional Facility at 200 Suffolk Avenue, Yaphank, NY, at 2:30 PM to thank the medical staff in person. He will then travel to the Riverhead Correctional Facility at 100 Center Drive, Riverhead, NY, where at 3:30 PM he will thank the medical staff there as well. There will be opportunities for socially distant interviews and photographs.

On Thursday, May 14, 2020, the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office will participate in a “Thank You Parade” of deputies, correction officers, Police and Fire Departments, to two Suffolk County Hospitals. The Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office and local police and fire departments would like to show their appreciation to all the hard working men and women working tirelessly, day and night, at both Mather Hospital in Port Jefferson and Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead.

The parades, which will include various Sheriff’s Office vehicles, trucks, and motorcycles, along with vehicles from fire departments and police departments, will first drive past Mather Hospital at 75 North Country Road in Port Jefferson. Staging for this event will take place nearby at 11:00 AM followed immediately by the parade at 11:30 AM.

The parade will then head to Peconic Bay Medical Center at 1300 Roanoke Avenue in Riverhead. Staging for this event will take place nearby at 2:00 PM followed immediately by the parade at 2:30 PM.

Sheriff Toulon will be present to share his heartfelt thanks and gratitude to all of the medical professionals. There will be opportunities for socially distant interviews and photographs.

In between the parades, Sheriff Toulon will be heading to the Riverhead County Center at 1:00PM where he will be participating in the County’s COVID-19 Antibody Testing Program. Sheriff Toulon believes that it is important for all county employees to be screened for the presence of these antibodies in the event that it provides a level of immunity to the virus. The positive presence of COVID-19 antibodies also enables that person to donate plasma with the hope that this plasma could be used to help patients who are symptomatic.
