I was born in Manhattan in 1964, and when I was 4, my family moved to Plainview, Long Island. I still remember how excited my parents were to have a house and a backyard. Plainview wasn’t wealthy back then. Just hard working people with strong values. I wasn’t a great athlete or a great student, but I was gregarious. I connected with people. I was even up for most popular and came up short. But like anyone, I wanted to stand out in front of the same kids I grew up with.
Early in my career, I noticed a commercial property on a busy road in Jericho owned by the family of someone from my high school circle. I didn’t have a relationship with them. No inside track. But I always had the same thought in the back of my mind. One day, I want to sell that property. So I stayed in touch over the years. No pressure. Just stayed around.
Then about a year ago, I got the call. They were ready to sell. And I knew this was my shot. This one felt different. Personal. I wanted to get it right. I went all in. Every system, every call, every email, every ounce of energy to make sure the property had the widest possible exposure. But deep down, I had a feeling who the buyer would be. There was one investor I had built a real relationship with over time, and I believed he was the right fit.

Out of thousands of brokers on Long Island, I got the opportunity. I won the listing. I found the right buyer. And I closed it for someone I grew up with.
And I couldn’t help but think about that kid from Plainview. Not the best athlete. Not the best student. Just someone who knew how to connect with people. Funny how that stays with you. Because in the end, that’s what this business really is. Relationships. And this one meant everything.
