Law Offices of Jason Tenenbaum: Getting Justice for the Little People Since 2010

When you’ve found yourself wronged or hurt through no fault of your own, having a highly-qualified, knowledgeable, and experienced attorney on your side is of vital importance, and when it comes to making you whole and getting you the compensation your richly deserve, no one does it better than The Law Offices of Jason Tenenbaum.

Based in Melville, New York, The Law Offices of Jason Tenenbaum first opened their doors for business in 2010 following its eponymous owner’s unsatisfying work in the legal field for other firms for a number of years; but finally, Jason Tenenbaum decided to strike out on his own and founded his own firm where he could call the shots as he saw fit.

The firm specializes in a variety of different aspects of the law, but their bread and butter is in representing plaintiffs in personal injury cases; no case is too big or too small. However, contrary to their current caseload, Tenenbaum noted that in the firm’s early days, they initially focused on large, corporate entities instead of the little people.

“We do a lot of different things here, but when this firm started, we mainly focused on no-fault defense, representing insurance companies, and doing some personal injury and general practice,” he said. “Through the years, however, we started doing other areas of insurance and litigation, such as personal injury and employment. These seem to be the two fastest growing areas of this law firm today. We got a lot of phone calls about those kinds of cases.”

Tenenbaum said that his firm experienced a shift away from representing giant, corporate insurance companies, gravitating towards representing individuals impacted by injuries suffered through no fault of their own instead. The transition was sparked by COVID-19, he noted, and continued even once the pandemic was in the rearview mirror. The Law Firm of Jason Tenenbaum was now taking up for the little people, and it’s a direction that he says he feels good about.

“We’re definitely much more of a plaintiff firm at this point,” he said. “Since COVID ended, we’ve really pivoted, because a lot of the insurance companies I worked for went out of business, either due to the pandemic or mismanagement, and I made a decision that instead of trying to find more insurance companies to work for, I decided I wanted to represent people who were injured, hurt, discriminated against, and other grievances with which we can assist. And the firm has essentially gone in that direction ever since.”

Tenenbaum has been practicing law for the past 23 years, having graduated from the Syracuse College of Law in 2002. He gained experience working for four different law firms before starting his own, and cited an unfulfilling work experience and the need to do things his own way as the impetus for striking out on his own and forging his own path.

“I was mainly just doing no-fault insurance defense, and I wanted to do more than that, but I was hamstrung in my old job,” he said. “I represented maybe two insurance companies, and that’s essentially all I would have ever done if I had remained at that firm. At that point I was also generating a lot of revenue for them, and I didn’t believe I was being fairly compensated. There was a glass ceiling and I would always essentially just be an employee, and it didn’t seem right to me.”

“It’s not that I ever really wanted to be my own boss, but at the same time I don’t really like taking direction from people,” Tenenbaum continued. “I have my own way of thinking about things and solving problems, and I’m not really a fan of being told what to do and how to do it, so I decided it was time to start my own firm and do things my own way.”

While a lot of kids dream about becoming astronauts, firefighters, or police officers, the law always held special interest for Tenenbaum, who used to spend hours watching courtroom procedurals on TV as a youth.

“When I was a young little kid in the 1980s and 1990s, I used to watch the Court TV shows and I said, boy, this looks like fun. I’d watch Judge Wapner and all those guys, and I thought it was so cool and I wanted to do that,” he laughed. “Initially I wanted to be a prosecutor and put people in jail, but early on in my career I had trouble finding jobs in the criminal justice field and I ended up going into insurance instead and grew from there. I have done some criminal defense in my life, mainly a few misdemeanors and a felony, so I did get that out of my system at least.”

But while he did achieve his childhood goal of becoming a lawyer, the question remains- is it as fun as he envisioned it while he was watching shows like The People’s Court all those years ago?

“No, it’s not,” he chuckled. “This job is highly stressful, very demanding, and what the practice of law doesn’t demand, running a business does. Even if you win a case, you have to worry about the business issues, such as keeping the people that work for you happy and so on. There’s a lot to handle, both inside the courtroom and out.”

In addition to practicing law in New York, Tenenbaum also maintains a license in Florida as well; as for the future, he stated that he envisions one day increasing his firm’s presence in Florida, as well as possibly opening up an office in Atlanta, Georgia, where he also has a license to practice.

But ultimately, Tenenbaum said that it is nonetheless very satisfying to help people who have been unfairly hurt or wronged get the compensation they need and deserve to become whole once again; positive end results like that make all of the hard work more than worth it.

“There is definitely something about helping people who have had their lives torn apart by serious accidents, or having been treated a certain way at work that caused them to have a mental breakdown, or someone who is being age discriminated against in the job market…you’re actually making a difference in somebody’s life, and for that I really do enjoy that aspect of the practice,” he said. “It’s certainly a lot more fulfilling than representing some soulless insurance company that is constantly fighting against giving payouts by claiming everything is fraud or not necessary. It’s a good feeling representing the little people and getting them the justice they deserve.”
