Suffolk County Legislator Sarah Anker hosted a pet food drive for seniors with pets in her office this holiday season. Legislator Anker partnered with Suffolk County Office for the Aging to disperse pet food donations that were received.
“Thank you to all who donated. The response was overwhelming! Community members in need should not have to choose between feeding themselves or their pets,” said Legislator Anker. “During times of economic hardship, it is especially important to assist both families and their pets.”
The remainder of donations will be utilized by Save-A-Pet Animal Rescue, a non-profit, no-kill shelter 501c(3) organization that protects and improves the lives of abused, abandoned, and homeless cats and dogs, and places them in loving permanent homes.
This pet food drive was held in memorial of Janice Henderson, who was a military veteran, a former school nurse, and a volunteer for animal rescue.
