Suffolk County Sheriff Errol D. Toulon, Jr. met with former NY Giant and two-time Super Bowl champion Perry Williams to appoint him as a Special Deputy with the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office.

As a Special Deputy, Williams, 59, will be working with our youth initiatives to encourage studying, working hard, and determination. Perry plans to act as a different type of role model based on his personal and professional experiences to show students they can do whatever they want if they put their minds to it.

Sheriff Toulon is excited to form this partnership with Special Deputy Williams. “Mentorship is an important aspect of our youth initiatives. I’ve always said that my goal is ‘to get to the kids before they get me.’ Having Perry Williams, a two-time Super Bowl winner, as a Special Deputy, encouraging our kids to work hard and achieve their dreams, is a huge win for the people of Suffolk County.”

Perry Williams was drafted by the New York Giants in the seventh round of the 1983 NFL Draft. He went on to play cornerback for the Giants from 1984 to 1993, winning two Super Bowl Championships with the team. Williams also played college football and ran track at North Carolina State where he held the indoor track record for the 55m dash.

Williams was slated to compete in track at the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow alongside teammate Carl Lewis. The United States ended up boycotting the 1980 Olympics to protest the 1979 Soviet invasion of Afghanistan and Williams never made it to the Olympics. Instead, he traded his dreams of an Olympic Medal for two Super Bowl rings.

Special Deputy Williams earned his BA from Fairleigh Dickinson University- Florham in 1987 and is now Director of Sports Management at Long Island University – C.W. Post in Brookville, NY.

“When I work with kids to help them succeed, I encourage them to believe in themselves,” said Special Deputy Williams. “Believe and you will achieve.”
