Long Island event producer Starfish Junction today announced the latest lineup in their summer-long pop-up drive-in movie series for the July 9th-July 11th weekend at the Smith Haven Mall in Lake Grove, NY. The upcoming schedule focuses on family-friendly films, a special showing of the original Batman movie (1966) starring Adam West, and free popcorn for every car from weekend snack sponsor, Stew Leonard’s. Information on the schedule, safety guidelines, show times and ticket availability, is available at www.MovieLotDriveIn.com.
MOVIE LOT, a pop-up drive-in movie experience, has entertained nearly 3,000 cars since it launched in May. The much-anticipated list for the next round of movies, shown on the giant 52-foot screen erected in the parking lot of the Smith Haven Mall, includes:
- Jurassic Park (7/9): A pragmatic paleontologist visiting an almost complete theme park is tasked with protecting a couple of kids after a power failure causes the park’s cloned dinosaurs to run loose. Based on Michael Crichton’s best seller.
- Footloose (7/10): This 80’s blockbuster musical drama tells the story of Ren McCormack (Kevin Bacon), who attempts to overturn the ban on dancing.
- Batman (1966) (7/10): SPECIAL EVENT! Released on July 30,1966, this DC Comics fan-favorite is based on the original Batman television series and was the first full-length theatrical adaptation of this much-loved DC Comics character.
- Madagascar (7/11): They’re out of the zoo without a clue! Kids of all ages will enjoy this comedy about a bunch of New York City zoo animals who get shipwrecked in Madagascar.
FREE POPCORN FOR EVERY CAR from STEW LEONARD’S
Stew Leonard’s, the family-owned and operated fresh food store with Long Island locations in East Meadow and Farmingdale, is the official snack sponsor for the weekend. Each car will receive one pre-packaged and safety-sealed bag of popcorn upon arrival.
Lake Grove was among the first Long Island towns to offer post-quarantine entertainment for local residents. With sold-out showings, MOVIE LOT confirmed that Long Islanders are ready for a fun and safe way to embrace summer recreation as shelter-in-place restrictions loosen.
“Long Islanders have come out in record numbers to enjoy a fun, new experience. It is nice to see people with smiles on their faces despite the continuing challenges we are all facing now,” said Lauren Powers, Senior Director at Starfish Junction. “So many attendees are coming back week after week, proof positive that we are delivering on our promise of a great experience.”
While drive-in theaters are staging a comeback across the country, Starfish Junction is positioning itself as one of the leaders here on Long Island. Future showings will include movies perfect for date nights, family fun nights, girl’s night out, sing-alongs, and classic films. There are a limited number of tickets available for each showing. Tickets are on sale now ($40 per carload) and must be purchased online in advance at the MOVIE LOT website to adhere to the promise of contactless processing.
Ticketholders are permitted to bring their own food and snacks to enjoy during the show. Attendees may also consider Smith Haven Mall restaurants for curbside pick up before filing into the lot for the movie. Portable restrooms will be available for use. The Smith Haven Mall is located in Lake Grove, NY. The showings will take place rain or shine, all ticket sales are final. Tickets and info at www.MovieLotDriveIn.com.
